Laser Classifications & Hazards
Class I Lasers
Class I lasers will not produce damaging radiation under normal operating conditions - when viewed under magnification. However, the beam can cause eye damage.
Class II Lasers
Class II Lasers aren't dangerous unless the beam is viewed under magnification.
Class IIIa Lasers
Class IIIa lasers can produce spot blindness and other eye injuries.
Class IIIb Lasers
Class IIIb lasers can damage eyes and burn skin.
Class IV Lasers
Class IV lasers can damage eyes, burn skin, and cause fires.
